Hi All
I am new here and still in the very early stages of looking into a possible move to Malta.

I have some questions please.

I know the wages are low and there is the alternative of going self employed (for a cost of, I think $1500 per anum) but I am wanting to find out , realistically and genuinely, what the work situation is like there.
My husbands business went dead in Tenerife and so he is a little afraid of going self employed. He is a Carpenter/fitter/boat builder. What is the likelihood of him finding work? We don't speak Maltese (Spanish, yes, though :) )
I am fairly confident in my own work as I am a dog groomer and a good one too ( :) ) so feel I will be able to set something up as I always have done.

I suppose I am just after your opinions on a move to the place. I did 8 years in Tenerife and really miss it but the cost of living massively outweighed ACTUALLY living and we just couldn't do it anymore. I had had a baby and was the only one working.

Thanks in advance for any help. I am desperate to leave the UK and would love Malta to be our new home.

Hello and welcome. Re speaking maltese...not a problem as all the maltese speak English too...but not Spanish.
Re finding work, you would have to come for a holiday and look around at possibilities for work. Malta is very different to Tenerife, culturally and even weather wise.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Great that language isn't a problem.

We have looked at job sites online but they are always old ads so hoped someone might be able to give us a hint as to what employment is like over there.
I only have Tenerife as a comparison but fully expect differences :) Thanks again

Hey Apollo,

Welcome to the forum. I can't comment on hubby's business, but I can say that when looking at jobs over the past couple of weeks, I've seen quite a few job listings looking for dog groomers in a couple of towns in Malta. So I'd say you shouldn't have a problem with that area of work.

Sorry I can't give any further advice, as I haven't moved there myself yet (I move in May) just thought I'd let you know about the dog grooming jobs I've seen :-)
