Hi everyone!

Please give your opinions about this salary offering to a foreign teacher.

Do you think 18000 RMB per month (with a free apartment) for an A level teacher in China is good enough? The place of work could be Beijing, Shanghai, Urumqi or Tianjin.

Is it possible for a family of two or three members to save money with this kind of salary while living comfortably (but not very luxuriously) in cities like these?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

It depends on which city do you live. In Tianjing or Urumuqi, it will be a very good salary. In Beijing or Shanghai it is not so good as in the other cities because of the high cost but it is still very good. But the most important point is a comfortable apartment is supplied freely , which will be the maximum cost for a family in China . So it is a good salary and is much more than an average level. Two or three people? No problem. So enjoy your life in China and good luck.

Thanks for the information, yqdavid!

Can you please give a rough estimate about how much a family of 2-3 will be able to save with this kind of salary if they live in one of the more expensive cities like Shanghai or Beijing?
The lifestyle will be a normal one, with no household servants, drivers etc. and self-cooking, and use of public transport.

Its good enough if you limit yourself to those you've mentioned(lifestyle). Apartment around Shanghai or Beijing its quite costly, so if its free then its good, well you also need to consider the location. Do you have insurance like health? because international clinics and hospitals are quite expensive, compared to local. if you consider schooling for your child in here well its another factor. So, I guess its enough to consider an experience and to be able to adapt and live with what you have.

Thanks for the info, Hanniepie!
I've also heard that accommodation in Shanghai and Beijing is expensive, but as apartment is free that shouldn't be a problem.

Do you have any idea about how much will have to be spent for utility bills (water, electricity, gas, telephone, internet)and food for a family of 2/3? I know its not possible to give exact figures as these costs depend on lifestyle, but can you make an estimate?
