Dear all,
I am new on this blog which I find very interesting.
I've been offered a one-year position in Copenhagen (I am from Belgium but living in Palestine currently).
The organisation is offering 5.000 euros GROSS a month, which if I understood well, after 40 pc taxes makes about 3.000 euros NET / month.
I'll be moving by my own and therefore assume that the cost of living is a bit higher than for a couple.
Please can someone let me know quite honestly if this is enough to live comfortably in CPH, since I understood the cost f living is quite expensive?
Thanks very much in advance, and good luck to all for endeavours.
Best
B

Hi Everyone,
I am a Software Developer living in Ahmedabad, India. I have a small family with my wife and a daughter who is in Grade I. We all are British Citizens.
I am working as a Software Developer [VB, VB.NET, SQL SERVER] and have experience of around 10 years. I was in UK before and relocated to India 2 years ago. I am thinking to move to Denmark where I can get good job in same field[Software Development]. I will be moving along with my family.
I have a few queries and it would be really helpful if someone can answer any of the below questions:
1. Is there any extra benefits being British Citizen?
2. In which city can I get good job in IT?
3. What would be the average salary as a Software Developer?
4. How much is an average expense including house rent, tax, transportation, health care, food etc?
5. Is it possible to get Indian food?
6. How much I would be spending for schooling of daughter? Is it free for British Citizen?
7. Do we need to learn Danish for better earning and communication?
8. The last and most important question is Should I relocate?
I kindly request you to take your time & clear my doubts please
...
In advance many thanks for your time.
Regards,
Ramesh Chaudhari
Hello All !
I am a software engineer, living in Hungary and would like to relocate to Denmark. I have a wife and no child yet. I have worked the last 10 years as a senior software architect for US companies. My questions:
1., I am at the age 42. Could it be a problem finding a job ?
2., what salary should I expect ?
3., I would like to live in a smaller town instead of Copenhagen. Are IT jobs available in smaller towns ?
Thanks for your answers,
Andras

I am an MBA graduate in finance. I have three years of experience as financial analyst/executive.
1) I don't know danish, will it affect my job search in Denamrk?
2) Heard that Copenhagen is an expensive city. Can you please give an average figure of expenses in Denmark(For a month).
2) Is it difficult to find out an accomodation in Copenhagen.

Hi adhithyahere! This thread is about " Cost of living in Denmark ". Well, for these questions, i suggest you to start a new discussion on the Denmark forum. Thank you.
1) I don't know danish, will it affect my job search in Denamrk?

1) The fact you dont speak Danish will affect your job search in Denmark, however since you have an MBA etc, you could look for an international job.
2) It's qualifications enough to find a job - most Danes have never been to universities, and the same in most other countries as well, but Denmark is egaliterian, so the minimum salary for an unskilled worker is about 100 kroner an hour, so high compared with unskilled workers in India.
3) Not sure what sort of salary u could expect ... perhaps between 3 to 4 times as much than if u had not had any degree at all, so perhaps 300 kroners an hour, but it depends.
4) Copenhagen is expensive, but so are many other cities.
Food items are not so expensive if u shop at supermarkets and cook at home, and if u eat Indian food then u can also buy Indian food items from Pakistani or Turkish shops, such as mung dhaal, chappati flour etc.
Rent will be your biggest expensive, perhaps it will cost you between 5000 to 7000 monthly for a flat of your own - the thing is in Oslo, which is even more expensive then a lot of people share a flat, in the same way as they do in the UK or Ireland, but Denmark does not have a tradition for that.
You will need money for the bus/train pass as well, perhaps 100 euro monthly. Remember you will need much more the first month (deposit for accomodation, which is often 3 months advance rent)
5) There is a website called "www.forum.dk", I think they have a section called Bolig or Ejendom which means accomodation /property, just ask if u want some of the words on there to be translated.
Hi All thanks for the reply...... Its seems I can make the move now

Hi Everyone....
I have been offered a job in Brande, Denmark. What is the cost of living in Brande? I have been offered 38000 krones. Can i survive with that? i have to support my wife as she is dependent.
please help me.... Is Brande cheap or is the cost of living too high?
I will be moving to Copenhagen briefly for some work. I will have all expenses such as travel, accommodation, etc paid for except food. I will be receiving a 4500 DK stipend per month. Is that enough to be able to live comfortably, if I don't plan on eating out too often.
Hi,
I have just been offered an internship position in Copenhagen,
I have been offered 5384 kr per month.
Is this enough to survive on.
Accommodation in Copenhagen (two room flat, ~50m2): between 5,000kr - 8,000kr p/m. Water and heating price is usually included within the rent. Deposit is almost always required, usually between 9,000kr - 20,000kr. Electricity bill comes in quarterly.
Food: 3,000kr p/m (mainly shopping in cheaper places like Netto, Fakta, occasionally in better places like Irma, Føtex)
Travel: Zone 1 - 4 monthly travel card (unlimited travel) 585kr p/m
Income tax is about 40% of your wages I think.
Possibly moving to Aarhus in 1 month. I have to pay for food, transport, electricity and water and want to have a life outside of work! Is 500euro a month impossible to do this on? thanks
how salary should one get to survive in denmark with the family and one child per month reply soon

Welcome on Expat.com kulvir
I will suggest you to view this website to get an overview of the approximate cost of living in Denmark. It listed the price of the basic "items/services" that am sure will be helpful to you to calculate your monthly/weekly expenses.
Hope this helps a little bit meanwhile. Else, for your salary query I guess you shall a new topic on the Denmark forum!
Regards
I can answer that very simply.
Compared to UK/Ireland/Germany for EVERYTHING except cigarrettes add anything from 30%-100%
Denmark is a Welfare State. The only way the government can find the money to pay all those millions of monthly welfare checks is to charge 50% income tax to the few poor suckers who do work and then slap so much VAT onto all goods and services that they are nearly double the price they would normally be in any other country. Witness the price of cars (250.000dkk for an average car) 15.000 pounds in England (140.000 dkk). Or shoes (1.000 dkk)
30 euros in Germany (200dkk)
As for welfare state, I must know 50 people, only 4 work, 2 of that 4 are foreigners, 1 of that 2 is me. Other 46 get a free check every month until they die and sit in Bodegas drinking all week.
dogstar68 while denmark is expensive I think you are missinformed on a few things.
I have never spent 1000dkk on a pair of shoes in the 10 years I have lived here in Denmark, maybe you are shopping at the wrong stores.
For those sitting in bars all day on welfare, they must be on a pension or unable to work because of alcohol problems, because if you are unemployed here you are activated by the kommune you live in, and you go to a kompetance center 5 days a week, some kommunes offer job searching days to certain people that are ready to work.
Hello everyone!
I am shifting to Brande in August. Please help me out in knowing the cost of living, nearest cities, vacation spots in Brande. I'll be getting approx 6000-7000 DKK after taxes and free accomodation (electricity and other facilities included). Is it enough to survive there?
Also it will be great if someone can gve me idea about prices of Blackberry phones having BBM service.
Thanks in advance
Abhishek
