Watch out in Sanlitun

Post new topic

giscarpo

Recently the small bar street in the middle of Sanlitun has been getting very dangerous, and for no reason. The other day I was at a bar called 9.9 and my brother, father and I were attacked from 7 different workers there. We offered to pay for our drinks after we had received them, and they argued and told us to leave. We were kind of upset so we gave them a hard time about it but we started walking away with no thought of physical violence. Next thing I know the server from 9.9 picked up a chair and hit my brother in the head. I pushed him into a table and then out of nowhere 6 or 7 men from the bar rushed out with bottles in their hands and smashed them over my fathers head. We were screaming and telling them to stop but they kept punching us and kicking us, even once we were on the ground. My father went to the hospital and needed 7 stitches. I want to let everyone know, especially foreigners, that 9.9 is not a bar you should be giving service. Please be careful when walking around there because the chinese men working in all those bars have nothing to lose, they are crazy and do not respect people.

I must admit I had never heard of 9.9 prior to this posting so went to see if the folks at LocalNoodles had anything to say about it and found this one and only review....

All of the bars on the west side of this bombed out looking alley way of a street are sub-average and 9.9 is no exception. The liquor is dubiously sourced, the beer selection is forgettable, and the music just manages to be mediocre. Chances are you have walked Tongli Street 1000 times during your tenure in Beijing and each time you are less and less impressed with what is on offer here. It looks more and more like a crappy bar street in Vietnam. Do yourself a favor, walk on by. I suggest trying the bars on the other - east - side of the street to include those on the rooftop: Bar Blu or Kokomo. If those don't do it for you then go to Blue Frog in the Village or The Saddle Cantina. If higher end bars are your thing then walk over to mesh or punk in the opposite house....

Why did you decide to go there...?

Thanks @giscarpo, I'll steer clear of the place! But, really, next time take your dad to the bars around Tongli Studios/3.3! Lots of fun, relatively safe, with no-one trying to impersonate a cowboy, or an American bar for that matter. You and your dad ought to enjoy Luga's:-) Good staff, nice deck, some killer drink deals, and the food is superb!
