Hi,
I would like to move to KL. I am studying at the moment to get a IATA travel and tourism foundation diploma. Does anyone knows if there are opportunities for foreigners in the travel and tourism field? I am also fluent in English and Arabic. Do you think I have a chance after I pass my diploma to get a job in Malaysia?
Any thoughts, advices would be appreciated.

Hi,
No one can help me?
Anyone knows if the tourism industry hires foreigners (speaking different languages)? The minimum wage to get a visa is 5000MR, is that usually paid in this kind of jobs? The jobs I am talking about are reservation/ticketing officers, customer service for foreign tourists, Hajj/Umrah reservations etc..
Do I have a chance to find one of these jobs or are Malaysians usually recruited?

Please anyone who knows, drop me a line.

To be honest I think you will not get that type of job in Malaysia as it can be done by locals. English is spoken here too so no problems for foreign tourists.

You also need to be 27 years old to get an employment pass and have a university degree. Jobs in your sector are not paid well and you will not qualify for a work permit unless you network and get to know someone who can offer you a job.  It is possible (I know of an Australian who managed it), but very difficult without living in Malaysia for quite a while and getting to know people.

Thanks for your reply. I am over 27 and I have a degree. I speak English and Arabic. Can you tell me if a lot of people come on a tourist visa (lasts 3 months) in order to look for a job or is this not liked? I feel that being far makes it hard to get anyone to give me a chance.. What do you think?

Yes, there are some people who come to search for a job. It is a very expensive undertaking though and finding a job can be very difficult, even if you are in the country. If you are Egyptian, you don't qualify to work as a foreign worker, so you wont be able to get any jobs in the service and other industries that they cover.

Your languages are not that useful as English is widely spoken,. The issue will be getting a job that gives you enough to live on and the living conditions can be very tough, with sharing apartments or even rooms as housing can be very expensive for foreigners. You may be able to get a job as a language teacher, but tourism is not going to work, as it is actually not possible for foreigners to own travel and tour companies, so it is unlikely you will be able to find anyone who can help you into that type of work. But as the salary would be very low - perhaps about RM2000 per month, it may not be attractive to give up your career and start again.

People who are good at marketing themselves do sometimes get jobs, but it usually takes longer than a tourist visa to achieve.  The immigration services are very strict as they are deporting hundreds of illegals every day. So questions may be asked at the airport, and it may be difficult to return immediately once the initial tourist visa has expired. Even if you pass your diploma in tourism, you will lack working experience, so it would not be likely you would get a job in that industry without extensive experience. Your initial degree and career may be more easy, depending on what field it is in. To be honest, trying to work in the tourism industry in a country you know nothing about is a bit of a pipe dream. There is lots of unemployment among new graduates, so jobs are going to Malaysians, rather than foreigners, even the low paid ones.

I am providing a link so you can see the salary levels in Malaysia and the cost of living:

The Cost of Living in KL is about 30% more expensive than in Cairo.
