Speedos are cool, and at least as many guys on the beaches are wearing speedos as beach/surf shorts, so thats wrong. Do agree that thongs are a no no and topless is a big no no. Socks with sandals makes you look American or German. Bling is a bad idea too...ideally dress simple, no shoes and you will look local.
