Where do I turn with my questions?

Hello!

I have SO many questions and don't know where to go for answers. I was born and raised in America, but am actively looking for a chance to leave. My goal is to have myself, my husband, and our (not-yet-born) son out of here within the next five years. I am open to the wide world, but have a special interest in Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. Has anyone ever left the US without a ton of money? How much should I secure before making the endeavor? And what other tips would you give to ensure that I won't have to return (due to lack of support, resources, or a job?)

Hello chelseaalex17,

Welcome to Expat.com :)

As you already have a special interest for a German speaking country, I have moved your message to the Germany forum (as main German-speaking country) for a better visibilty and interaction with other members.
My first question would be: Do you speak German?
Next, I suggest to visit our guides for mainly Germany and Switzerland where you will find more information.
Also, I invite you to go to the Austria forum or Switzerland forum if you have a specific query for either destination.

Hope that some members from the US who made the move will give some good advice.

Good luck & all the best,
Olivier

Consider looking at countries that have cheap housing and need the skills you have.
Asia is full of such countries, as I'm sure many other areas are.
If you have no special skills as such, perhaps you might consider the TEFL path so many others have taken up and loved.
As with any person moving away from what they know best, an open mind is essential.

Hello Olivier! I don't speak German, but I do plan to learn once my family and I have a definitive choice of country.
