Teaching in Ireland

Post new topic

Corveen

Hi. I am 52, a promoted primary teacher and I'm considering a move to Ireland. I have an Irish passport but have always lived in Scotland. I have two issues:
* are there areas in education I could work where I wouldn't need to speak Gaelic.
* what would happen to my UK pension and would I qualify for an Irish pension?
Looking forward to any advice. Thanks :)

James

I'm sure you'll get much more relevant replies if you post your questions to the IRELAND FORUM.

This is a rather "generic" international forum, but in our Ireland Forum you'll be dealing with people who actually live there.

Armand

Moved to the Ireland forum.

Hello,
A high standard of Irish Gaelic is required for any primary school teacher position in the Republic of Ireland.

Corveen

Thanks Aidan. Do you know if there is the same requirement for teaching in the special needs sector?

Aidan

Hello,
For special needs, I can't say, but I would say the requirement is across the board.. You can refer to the Irish Department of Education website.
