Airplane crash at King Khalid

Post new topic

WTENGEL

Anybody happen to see the Lufthansa crash today?

It was a cargo plane thankfully and both pilots got out and were treated at the hospital.

One of my buddies was on shift today and went to this call, and for a few minutes until they realized it was a cargo plane, there was a lot of action brewing around headquarters trying to get the resources organized to deal with the accident...

Anyway, thought I would drop a note for anyone who might be nosy and want to know what happened...at least there was a happy ending for all involved except the airplane.

Glad it was just cargo...I'd hate to think of a planeful of passengers crashing in the KSA.  I just don't think they'd have the resources to deal with it well.

Mmmm, glad it was only cargo - we've got resources and afraid the passanges would come to us because we a private hosptial. We had the USA embassy do a walkabout so they obviously want to put all the USA expats with us instead of these MOH hospitals.

There was an accident in 1980:

Nelson, I was only looking at an air crash story re Saudi Airlines 48 hours ago.  It occured in 1996 and was mid-air...a one in a million chance..Kazakhstan Airways were to blame plus outdated radar at Delhi Airport.

Sky News reported it yesterday but only as a one liner without too much detail.

There has been a passenger airline crash in Pakistan, sadly, this morning which has claimed many deaths:-

Latest news of the Pakistani Air Blue airliner Crash states all 152 passengers on board are dead.

I think we could deal with it ok actually. Trauma is relatively easy to deal with, and the crews here have a TON of experience dealing with multiple casualty incidents like large car accidents and such.

I am not saying it would go without a hitch, but I am fatly certain the SRCA would be able to get plenty of ambulances on scene in a short amount of time, and with a Western paramedic or two doing triage and coordinating resources, I think we could make it happen,

About Westerners going to a specific hospital, the US embassy has no say or influence on where citizens of the USA go to get treated. If the patient is emergent or critical we go to the closest facility with appropriate resources, MOH or private. Also with a large scale incident like this could have been, if I or any of the other Western trained medics were coordinating the effort, we take onto account what hospitals are within close proximity, and we distribute patients evenly so as not to overburnden any one facility.
