Greetings to all. I am in the process of relocating overseas. I have heard so much about the Philippines and I want to take a look at moving there. My major concern was looking for employment there. I am a US citizen with no ties or relatives in the Philippines. I saw pictures of the oceans and thought that is a great place to start a new life. Can anyone relate to this or maybe share an experience. Thank you.

Hello.

sherwinmjacobs

Hell Kenjee,

I am looking to move some where if not near Angeles then a smaller province.  I have multiple skills in the Information Technology field as well as Supply Chain Management and Logistics. I also have a talent for fixing electronic things and instructing. I have a great tool set with many pieces. I have a passion for music since I used to be a pro DJ. I still have all my equipment too.

You can not work here. And tools that you will bring will cost more in customs than they are worth.  Other than that a great place to live if you are self supporting here.

Hi James. I am self supporting.  Secondly I didn't know I couldn't volunteer my services to helping people who needed.

Any alien seeking admission to the Philippines for employment purposes and any domestic or foreign employer who desires to engage an alien for employment in the Philippines is required to obtain an employment permit from the Department of Labor and Employment.

good morning sherwin,

i am now retired in the Philippines, but before that l have worked at variety of jobs.  My answer to you would be it depends on your skill set and your willingness to take a risk.  I am an educator with a master's degree.  I have worked as a principal of an international school and as an English professor in a major university.  The both paid the peso equivalent of about $600 per month.  Granted, $600 is much more here than in the USA but still a small salary.  Foreigners here have started business here like restaurants and English tutoring services.  For me, businesses = employees and employees = headaches.  I am sure you will get advise from many, but i think the Philippines is a great place to retire, not a great place to earn a living.  Why are thousands of locals working abroad?  It is driven by the desire to upgrade their lifestyle.  You can live here comfortably on $1000 depending on your comfort level, many live on less.  Hope this was helpful.

Hello Greenetravel. Thank you. That does clear up alot of misconceptions about things. I have been hearing alot of untrue statements, but you have put it into perspective for me. Thank you again.

Thank you Roundhead. If that is true, I guess I should really look into just retirement. My retirement pay is well above that and I have been working for some time. I hope that I can take a limited risk in starting a small humble business to help people. I do not want the headaches; that has been my life for far too long. Thank you again. Your guidance is greatly appreciated and helpful.
