Wanting to study my final year in an international school in Jeddah.

Post new topic

Hello,
I recently moved to Saudi Arabia Half way through my Leaving Cert Curriculum in ireland (A 2 year high school exam before college) I completed 1 year and my parents decided to move to saudi before the final year. Right now im 18. And i was wondering if you know any good international schools where i could complete 1 year and get my certificate instead of having to do 2 years.

I was thinking i should do the IGCSE exams (because UMST university of sudan accept this for college admission) but as long as it's 1 year only. I am not willing to do 2 years. A levels is two years but im not willing.
But the thing is IGCSE is for like 15-16year olds. And im turning 19 soon i feel too old for it,

DO you know if i could do the american system exams in 1 year?
What aresome good international schools where I only have complete 1 year to get the graduation certificate?

Hello Mohamed Ali, Welcome to EB,

Your query is a bit confusing, please let me know if you are a UK national and where are you planing to pursue your university education. Based on these, I should be able to advise you for the best possible path.

Thanks very much!
I'm sudanese but i was raised in ireland all my life I'm not uk national.

My  choices are maybe college in UK or maybe Ireland. I want tonstudy medicine. Or Sudan University of medical sciences and technology.

Right now my parents are looking for an international school in jeddah for me where i only have to do the final grade. Because they dont want me to go back to ireland.

Hello Mohamed Ali,

IGCSE is roughly equivalent to GCSE O- Level, which means you still need to choose between either A-Level or IB  ( International Baccalaureate) . This means this will take another 2 years before you can apply at a university.

I suggest you must plan your carrier 'backwards' , ie which university are you planning to get into? Most British Universities have an intake plan for September only, therefore I do not see any possibility of you applying before Sept. 2016 session.

Getting into a University in UK to study medicine is extremely competitive, so much so that hundreds of US and UK nationals get into Pakistani Universities to study Medicine and return to their home countries later to pass professional examinations.

There are two universities including Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar worth considering, they offer partial or full merit scholarships to non- Qatari students , I suggest you find their entrance requirements.

I hope you know that the Leaving Certificate is equivalent to the A-Level and IB?  Having finished half of it, how could you go backwards to doing IGCSE, something you have already finished the equivalent of (Junior Certificate) a year or two ago?

You need to do A-Levels or the IB.  Since you have done half of the Leaving Certificate course, some schools might accept you in the second year of the A-Levels or IB.  No way to know, except to go check with the schools, but you need to hurry.  American system is also an option.

Schools you should look at:

IB:
British International School of Jeddah (Continental School)

A-Level:
Jeddah Prep and Grammar School
Pakistan International School - English Section
Thamer International School
Bangladesh International School - English Section

American:
American International School of Jeddah
Dar Jana International School
Thamer International School

Google school names to get locations and numbers.  Call and make appointments to go see the headmasters/principals ASAP with your parents, like right now!  Take all documents from previous schooling.

You need to research the entry requirements for medicine in UK/Ireland/wherever, to make sure you do the needed subjects.  I am sure they require A-levels/IB in biology and chemistry, but not sure about math and physics.

If you need any more info, ask!

Good luck!

Thanks very much for your reply I really appreciate it.
Yeah I suppose medicine is very competitive and I agree I have heard of people doing medicine outside of western countries since its hard to get.
The reason i wanted to do igcse is because It is only 1 year and is also accepted by the UMST. Sudan (Khartoum)

http://www.umst-edu.com/Medicine.aspx under the admission header*

and It is very likely that I will go sudan for college because I'm starting to forget my country and I don't think I'm capable to compete for medicine in the uk.
