Hello Mike,

Where are you heading? How long will you stay? Is it your first trip to Ecuador?

I am planning a move in August of 2015.

Most Expats seem to prefer the Pacific Coast beach towns -- which are a varied group of communities --  or else Cuenca and Quito (and its suburbs).

One reason is the weather -- these two bigger cities are at altitude so it's cooler, and the beaches enjoy moderating breeses and access to swimming.

Best to avoid Guayaquil:  hot, humid and crime-prone.  510 express kidnappings were reported in Guayaquil in a 10-month period (source: Latin America crime-watch publication Dialogo, for Jan. 1, 2012-  November 10, 2012).

Vilcabamba and Cotacachi are two other places Expats have found beckoning so might be worth your interest.
