During my trip to Gibraltar in June, I went up to the top of the Rock a couple of times. Whist up there, I saw a push chair parked next to a wall outside a café. It was unattended.
Due to the way the push chair was parked, I couldn't see inside it. A curious monkey, the biggest in the group, obviously saw something interesting and went for a closer look, climbing into the push chair.
I instantly worried that perhaps a small child might be sat in the chair, eating an ice cream or something (it was outside the café after all) and imagined the monkey maybe wanted to steal said ice cream/snack. So, I quietly tiptoed over, to take a look.
Then, I made a fatal error! I put my hand on the left handle of the pushchair. The monkey, who hadn't noticed me until then, was sat inside the chair facing inwards, and was very startled when he spotted me. There was no kid in the pushchair, just a handbag, that the monkey was looking into. He obviously thought I was after the bag too, so grabbed my arm, started screaming at me and showed all his teeth.
Bravely... I ran away! Jumped onto the cable car and didn't look back
So that, boys and girls, is the story of how I got outsmarted by one of the beautiful macaque apes
