Hi I am moving to Malta in July and have a question on fitted lights.

Is the wiring the same in Malta as in the Uk, I'm just wondering if it will be worth my while bring lights with me rather than buying lights when I arrive?

Thanks in advance
Steph

You mean like wall lights??
The wiring here is the same but it's not as easy as it sounds if you are installing new lights. If you're replacing ones that are there then fine.
Maltese electrics tend to be hit and miss. Live feeds, dead feeds, no logic to where something came from or where it is going!

Thanks coxf0001.

I'm moving into a new build maisonette, it is ceiling lights I'm thinking of bringing over with me.  I have a container for my furniture and there is enough space for me to bring other items over. I just don't want to waste money on lights that I can't get fitted.

Hi Steph,

You should be fine then and there would be no need to buy ones over here.

This worries me! As long as you really know what you are doing then fit the lights yourself. Otherwise, get someone qualified if you can!! I state that as previously mentioned the electrics over here are not only hit and miss but sometimes downright dangerous. Also, finding someone who knows and is qualified to the standard of qualification expected in the UK may be difficult. Often the only qualification people hold out here and doing this work is that they are still alive, that's all. You are also very well advised to bring out your own fittings. Many sold here are cheap (or not so cheap) imitations, even bearing a CE mark but are not tested or meeting the standards required and have been known to catch fire.
