moving to Helsinki next week and would like to rent/share an apartment in a central area.

You should consider inserting an ad in Helsinki Classifieds -> Accomodation section, not in the forum.
You might also check out the ads already there.

Is it common for professionals to share flats? It seems all the resources I can find are mostly for students sharing accommodations, rather than professionals. Is this uncommon?
