Mekong Delta visit

Post new topic

Hi there

Can anyone suggest what to do, where to visit and hotels in the Mekong Delta region.  My friend and I are planning a visit for 10 days

Mekong Delta Cruises?  Any suggestions?  Many thanks for your ideas!

Hi,

You don't register for any tour?

It will be easier for me to give the hotels' addresses if you can give me the name of the location you want to visit: Can Tho, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu or Ca Mau?

Regards

There are so many hotels available, it's crazy to tie yourself down because you have a hotel reservation.

What if you find a boring place but instead of moving on you are stuck there because of hotel reservations.

Rather than take a tour, which are often visits to factory outlets to buy junk, take the Mai Linh intercity/town buses (no advance reservations) - small mini-buses and 18-seaters - and you can, with a decent tour book (not Lonely Planet), plan your route.

Even from wonderful Ha Tien - with a market with the greatest seafood - you are only 6-8 hours away from HCM.

WARNING: There are few vacancies in hotels during the 2-week Tet holiday.

Hi..I really don't mind.  We are a group of 4 who are interested also in a Mekong River cruise to anywhere.  Have you ever done one?

There are Mekong cruises to Chau Doc - the border crossing.

Other cruises were severely hit following a ban on the Flying Fish style hydrofoils after one caught fire. They will likely restart once the Vung Tau ferry service has been fully re-established.

You are best buying tickets direct from the ferryboat operators as 'travel agents' add their (large) commission fees to their ticket prices.

The Can Tho early morning water-borne market is a must - but you have to get up early. You need an organised tour for this. Your Can Tho hotel will get you in touch with good tour operators.

Thanks for this

Are there cruises for a couple of days you can do up the Mekong ?

Has anyone heard about them, good…bad….?

Is it worth doing?

I have been to the Can Tho water market and is a good adventure to see the daily activities on the river. However, my brother and sis-in-law did not enjoy one mekong tour as they complain about the constant changes of boats in and out. What a hassle they said.
