Take my advice, marry elsewhere. Marrying in Brazil is a complicated, bureaucratic nightmare. And from my understanding it is not even possible unless you are to marry a Brazilian citizen.

I married under same-sex conditions and it was a 4 month chaotic nightmare. If you are just looking to do it it for ceremonial reasons, do it there and then have it officially done a the court house in Canada when you get back - trust me - you will maintain your sanity.

I would really suggest getting married elsewhere, where the bureaucracy is considerably less. You'd EACH have to have the mountain of documents (all notarized and consularized) ready upon arrival, submit them immediately and hope that you could get through the marriage process, which takes at the very least 30 to 45 days if all goes well before your trip ended.

The process is difficult enough for foreigners marrying Brazilian citizens, and enough to drive you crazy. Also the Cartórios make all kinds of mistakes when one marries a Brazilian, just imagine when two foreign nationals are involved, the chances are they'd just screw up everything.

Cheers,
