Jakarta, GIVnews.com – The draft of a bill (RUU) regulating Indonesian citizenship status has been included in Prolegnas (National Legislation Program). This opens up the possibility of a dual citizenship policy, allowing Indonesians with overseas citizenship to gain citizenship recognition from home.

This is aimed at the Indonesian diaspora, but may have a happy ending for many foreign expats in Indonesia.
Anyone heard anything?

It’s the logical first step…actually, it’s the second step, as the first step was allowing for dual citizenship of children born of mixed Indonesian/other nationality marriages.

Slowly we are moving the right direction, and this next logical step would be to reactivate Indonesian citizenship for those Indonesians who had to give it up in order to effectively live outside of Indonesia.

I share your optimism Fred that the third and final step will be to allow for dual citizenship of foreign born expats who chose to live here in Indonesia. This seems to be more a matter of when, as opposed to if.
