Career Change

Looking for a different job in Hanoi that isn't teaching. I feel like teaching is not really for me although I have done it for 3 years. So I was wondering if there are any other jobs out there for a foreigner?

Availability comes down to your qualification. For example, recently got contacted by Vincom group for Director of Marketing position. What I see is that whatever skillset you have, you try to be part of that industry community to give yourself maximum visibility...ergo more incoming career opportunities.

I have a degree in Public Services (Army, Fire brigade, Paramedic, Police and Security) but most of these jobs can't be done by a foreigner, right?

Hi. I'm relatively new but I'm fairly certain that those functions are local-only type thing. That would of course be unfortunate because I do have healthy respect for your qualifications.

Actually, with increased number of foreigners living/visiting Vietnam, I would think that the more forward thinking hospital (that targets foreigners) would want people on their staff that can help them communicate with their non-Vietnamese customers

Vietnam is definitely a great place to live. Besides being a teachers, expats are moving here to be a IT specialists, designers, etc. Even being a staff at NGO is also great for foreigners.

Well plenty of opportunities awaiting here! Hiring foreigners is now fashionable for many multi-national companies in VN, especially in HCM city. You may wanna check this out: vietnamworks.com/ho-chi-minh-jobs-v29-en. Good luck!!! :)

where is the link?

JaniceLe

Hi, Really don't know why the link disappeared. Can u just try google vietnamworks? It's a reliable job site in VN. Some jobs are posted in VNese, some are in English, but now most high-paid jobs require Eng-speaking people.

Hi,

I would suggest you start a business, find something you like to do and do it. It's very cheap to start something in Vietnam. That's the best way to get out of the Teaching industry. Companies here tend to hire foreigners just for executive positions which require a lot of experience in that particular business sector your applying to.
