Haima is a desert town located approximately 700kms away from Muscat. It is a small town surrounded by desert (the Wusta region) with almost "NO" social life. It may be considered to live as a bachelor, but keeping a family in HAIMA (I doubt will it be a good option). Anyway, the local Omanis there are nice and supportive. There is one hypermarket with general facilities available. Health center and related necessities are available.

I would suggest you to think twice before shifting to Haima with family.

The nearest city (or i would say, a city like town) to Haima is "Duqum", which is being developed quite fast due to the port and other related facilities. Duqum is around 350kms away from Haima.

Salalah is the city, that is around 550kms away from Haima. Most of the sorroundings of haima, comprise of the desert Oil&Gas sites which are facilitated by most of the contractor companies of "Petroleum Development of Oman (PDO)". Many of the water / gas pipeline projects are being executed all around the area.

Yes, Haima has an airport too. The airport consists one small room (for immigration checks) and that's it. Mostly PDO chartered flights reach there and the officials get transports from the airport to reach specific sites.

The mode of travelling to distant places is either "Taxis" or hiring a company's driver. Buses from Muscat - Salalah stop over at Haima and take different routes from there.
I can't comment much about it as I never had any experience to travel by taxi or a bus in that area. However, the earlier you obtain a driving license, the better would be your travelling options be.
