Hi

I am Doreen and comes from Malaysia. I have a degree in Accounting from England and am currently doing self-study in ACCA , another paper to go (But its a tough paper). I would like to know whether i can get accounting related jobs in British Columbia. Also, which employment agency would be able to help me.

Please advice.

Thank you in advance.

Hi fellow countryman/woman,

I do not know of any employment agency. This is a tough one especially since you are looking for an accounting job which is rather saturated with locals/PRs here already. I am not saying don't try but the reality it is going to be hard. In addition, the place you want to go is also highly competitive with folks from all over the world trying to head there.

There are 3 ways to get here:
1) Through valid work permit
    - you will need someone to offer you a job.
    - be willing to wait patiently for you to wait out for your permit process to be finalize (its going to be long like months!)
    - that's why its rare for employers here to do that, because they don't want to wait that long
    - and also pay for part of the application fee
2) Through permanent residency
    - There are many PR app channels. e.g. Express entry, Provincial Nominee, CEC etc.
    - You can only apply for the first 2 above because you didn't study in Canada so CEC is out.
    - Now it is easier said than done. There are many dimensions to it like what's your background, your work experience
qualifications, where you want to be in Canada. BC and Toronto are popular areas and its a tough competition for
      you.
3) Enhance your studies through a Canadian institution of higher learning e.g. degree or masters. After completion you immediately get a work permit without much problem. After a year or so, you can apply for PR.

Hi Phillipyeo

That was a quick reply... thanks  :)

I actually has a pr and i am staying with my friend in Coquitlam.

I am from Sabah. Where you come from, Malacca, is a nice place. I was there last Dec 2014.

I am beginning to worry now. I have seen many jobs related to accounting and have sent some online. So far, there is no reply. :(

I planned to do my last paper in ACCA and may be convert it to CGA, as i understand i can do it by sitting a Tax paper?

Thanks.

Ok. That's good. Its good that you are a PR.

You want to start off by going to the immigration services centre in BC. e.g. ISS of BC
http://issbc.org/prim-nav/programs/career-services
They have some service offerings that may be able to cater to you in that location. I know here in Halifax, NS, there's ISANS http://www.isans.ca. Then also find the equivalent in Toronto.

Ask the folks there about what kind of networking events or groups you can joint. Also seek their advice as to what other bodies/organization exist to help people to network. Over in Halifax, there's GreaterHalifax Partnership organization. They have a program called the connector program, http://www.greaterhalifax.com/en/home/o … fault.aspx
Basically helps folks to connect with people that already have a job and are establish in that area as a mentor. Then, the mentor will help connect that individual with any of his/her network.
I believe BC copied this program too, theirs is http://www.iecbc.ca/our-initiatives/connector-program

I had Malaysian contact here in Halifax, also with accounting background and finished his ACCA. He had a hard time looking for a permanent job. He did get contract gigs. Some were ok but they were short. And some paid very bad. Then again, its Halifax. Pay here is slightly lower than in BC. Now, he did not have PR and is on an open work permit. He eventually went back to MY.

All the best!

Ok, I found a site that list down where all the other connector programs in Canada are.
http://www.greaterhalifax.com/en/home/o … ities.aspx

They kinda copy cat the one done here in Halifax, which started it.
