Moving with pets

My husband and I are planning on moving to Abu Dhabi in February 2011. We will be moving from the U.S. and we will be bringing our small dog with us. Is there anyone else that has traveled a long distance with their pet? If so, do you have any tips?

The flight time was 6 hrs, but we had to hand over the dogs to the cargo personnel two hours earlier and it took as another two hours in Dubai to clear them through customs. We did lot of preparation up front and had all vaccinations, documents, import permits available so it was pretty smooth.

You need to be aware that pets can enter UAE only as cargo.

We flew to Dubai, but I assume the conditions would be the same for Abu Dhabi as well.

I know that in Dubai, "Dubai Kennels & Cattery" dkc.ae is specializing in pets relocation. Maybe they can help in Abu Dhabi as well, or at least recommend someone.
