foreigners- married to south african for 7 years - do I get resident?

If a guy from overseas has a temporary residents permit and has been married for 7 years to a south African residence. About 3months ago he applied for his id... What will happen if he leaves his wife now?

if you are applying for an ID doesn't that mean you have permanent residence?

Any how, if your residence visa/permit is based on a relationship that ceases to exist, you need to notify the department and your permit will likely be cancelled.

I would recommend that should you want to stay in the country you lodge an application for a visa on grounds separate to your relationship. That way should your relationship end, your visa won't be affected.

can anyone help us. We want to get married n my feance is from Malawi n im a south african. Homeaffairs told him to go home at Malawi n ask the papers show dat hes not married. Can anyone tell us what we can do coz hes working n to go home is gona need too much money. Plz help
