You need RM1 million paid in capital to the company balance sheet, to open a restaurant in Malaysia that is 100% foreign owned. To get a work permit as a Director a person has to put in RM500k. It has to have a floor area of not less than 1500 square feet and unique concept.

Less paid in capital is needed if the restaurant is owned with one or more Malaysians.

1.5 million in real? Or just in documents?

Real money paid into a corporate bank account in the name of the company at a Malaysian bank.

Never heard about real money when ever you open new company in Malaysia company Secretary will make sure about the capital amount to show in documents as per my knowledge you need real money to open restaurant or company fees + visa fee that's all

Everything has changed - read the links provided. All sorts of catches now to plug previous loopholes.

You are confusing nominal capital and paid up capital.

Bank account needed to pay in paid up capital. The paid up capital can be removed for business expenses, but has to be returned to the balance sheet each year for annual report and accounts.

Restaurant premises are being pulled down or closed everywhere as they do not adhere to the latest rules. Some companies are struggling and conning new shareholders to make up the RM1 million (taking their money) with no chance of any profit. A very tricky situation and a lot of people getting caught out.

Ohk I didn't know about that. Well thanks to you for sharing such a valuable information. Sounds cool it helps me a lot now.
Any suggestions about on with low budget businesses? Capital starts from 100k to 500k.

You can open a Labuan company but it cannot operate in Malaysian Ringgit except for paying expenses in Malaysia. You can have a marketing office/premises but not for sales. So import/export would be possible with or without physical presence of marketing office.

This may help if you want a Labuan employment pass

I had few bad experiences in Malaysia few years ago. This time would like to do business without any such trouble. One is payment you can't trust anyone.
I always feel Malaysia is my home. People of Malaysia are good but few are bad they always trying to make you feel you're outsider stay in your limits we have power to kick your ass blah blah. Obviously that makes you feel bad.
This is the reason I'm asking you to suggest me safe and sound way which you did in above message.

I would just say people need to read things very carefully to find out if their business plan is reallly possible.

I just noticed that to get a work permit with a Labuan company there are also some brand new rules (see above link) - people are getting caught out as the rules are changing all the time.

The Company Secretaries dont really care because they still get paid. Its the business owners that end up spending lots of money, pay tax on salaries, and then cannot run their business anymore. So its often a short sighted decision to set up a business in Malaysia these days.
