Hi All,
Kindly let me know what is the Medium of Instruction at Austrian Universities.
Is it English?

And how about schools and nurseries for children?
Is education free for children?

Thank you so much!

As the language of instruction at Austrian universities is German, applicants are required to prove their level of command of the German language either by school examination results, if studied at school, or by presenting German language course diplomas, such as the Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache für ausländische Studienbewerber – TestDaF. Most institutions require a minimum level of command corresponding to the B1/B2 level according to the European language passport. Masters and research programes may not require any knowledge of German since they are usually designed for international students.

School is compulsory for all children between the ages of 6 and 15 who live permanently in Austria. That means that all children have to go to school. Violations are taken very seriously.

School is free, Children have to go to kindergarten the year before they start school. This kindergarten requirement applies to children who turn five before September 1 of the respective year. They are required to go to kindergarten or a children’s group. This year of kindergarten (half-day) is compulsory and, therefore, free.
