Czech language is hard, is it a barrier in terms of communicating?

Hi there,

I have just become a fully qualified teacher, from Glasgow, Scotland and have accepted a job contract to teach in Prague for one year. I go out in August and am very excited about the prospect. I was wondering as the Czech Language is one of the hardest languages to learn. Is it much of a barrier in terms of communicating and getting around in Prague?

Hi Mike,

I have created a new topic with your post on the Czech Republic forum for more visibility and interaction with the members.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

As a teacher of English who has lived in this country for nearly 10 years, I can tell you the Czech language is hard, but you will find that many people in Prague speak English.

It's pretty easy to learn some stock phrases to get you started, if you are only going to be here for a year.

Good luck.

Around Prague, you shouldn't have too many problems if you don't speak Czech. Lots of knowledgable expats are there and many Czechs there speak good English in my experience.
