Help please - trying to find a maid

Post new topic

Amaryska

I am asking for anyone at all whom can know any information of a cleaner called Hong.

She has recently been employed by us 5 weeks ago.

We since have had a large sum of money missing from the house on 2 occasions a week apart.

She since has not returned to work since 3 days.

Does anyone have idea of this womans wherabouts and how i go about this in a way discreetly to get evidence? :(

How can we know if just a name, even it can be fake name? Do you have any pictures or other information?

Amaryska

I have only her phone number. She might not be the one.But we highly suspect her as since she has been working, these things have been missing.

We know our routines, our stuff.

ONly have her phone number. But i want to be discreet and not let on that i know, in order for her to confess and return my savings :(

Hi,

How could you find this lady? You recruited someone as a maid without seeing any papers? I am afraid that you can just consider this as an experience and a charity.

Regards,

Lolitus

You should contact with the police as soon as possible..

You should always get a copy of a valid identity card when you hire a housemaid and invest to buy a safebox to keep your most valuable things in.

About how much money are we talking about? I'm sorry to say, but without proof the money is probably gone and I would not expect an confession from her, if you would be able to reach her.

Your chances of seeing the cash again are limited.
The suggestions above are good ones.
One more .. keep valuables in one room, and lock it when you go out.

I wasnt here when she first came in to work and id unfortunately was forgotten on an immediate hiring moment as we really needed help as we were moving apartments. I was at work till late everynight and my husband didnt get any id from her. Im very sad about this too.

Thank you to all :( I always get papers of course when employing someone. I just wasnt here on this occasion.

Do you have her ID card? If yes, please come to nearest police station and ask their favor. The same case just happened with my very close friend: her maid disappeared with 70 million VND.

It seems very difficult to take back the money.

Good luck!

Call the police.  Hopefully the phone number is tied to her name.  Hong (Huong, Hang) is a needle in a haystack in Vietnam.  Even if police get a hold of her, how can you prove anything?

Sorry for you loss but keep your valuables away from them.

I know a great, HONEST Vietnamese lady who has helped me for 6 years. You won't find better, in my opinion. She has also taken care of many other expats as a maid and nanny. Never any problems. By the way, I'm an expat, not Vietnamese/Viet Kieu and have no relation to this lady other than a genuinely good friendship. I'd be happy to introduce you to her. The other option is to find a Filipino maid to help. I've heard people having much better luck with them, but don't quote me on that.
Also, rule of thumb here... Well, take all advice that's already been handed to you by other expats. Getting the ID is key, but I'd also suggest getting to know her family and where they have permanent residence in VN. Viets are typically attached to their family at the hip and so, find the family and you will find her. The police may help with their threatening tactics on the family, if you still can't find her. Of course, they have invested interest(ie money). It's unlikely that the police will put in much effort,
if any, though(you are an expat), but a visit by them or you to her family's house will make them and her "LOSE FACE"... the neighbors will gossip after getting the skinny on the situation and her name may become a black mark on the family. Crush her any way you can.
And I'm sorry to say, but It's always a good idea to lock up everything or take it with you when you leave your house or even when you are home with a Viet visitor, even if you know them well. The same may apply to some expats here...People can be masters of deception and this is a disgustingly desperate and greedy place. I'll never again leave someone I don't know very well in my house here without proper supervision. Snakes
Any info you have on this woman should be posted on the internet to prevent her from doing the same thing again. Recourse is rare in these circumstances, but VN needs more accountability. Too often expats and Viets alike think that there is just nothing that can be done, but any kind of transparency is worth the effort. Remember, they usually don't see the future, comeback customers, etc. it's "what can I get and what can I get RIGHT NOW!" Good luck
