GOZO ACCOMODATION

Post new topic

We are thinking of moving to Gozo when our 12 month contract is up at the end of October. Has anyone got any comments good or bad about Gozo and if good ones where do you recommend to live on the island. And can anyone recommend a good landlord or agent. We are looking for a two bed accomodation.

We have used Frank Salt in Victoria twice in the last 2 1/2 years and both times they have been very good. We have been shown the right sort of properties at the correct price range and each time we have met the landlords before agreeing a deal, both landlords have been good.

When we moved last time we contacted 5 agents in Victoria by email to check if specific properties were available:- GozoPrime responded same morning, Frank Salt next day, ReMax 3 days, Dhalia did not respond until I called into their office and Arkadia ignored first three emails!
Another company which has some quite nice properties but seem a little dearer is Baron Homes.

As with everywhere you need to check out the area you are thinking of moving into very carefully. As well as the usual dogs etc. be wary of holiday properties nearby which often tend to be let to Maltese visitors who frequently pack far more people in than they should and party the weekend away with loud music! They will also take up every available parking space!

Especially those Gozo farmhouses that are often advertised, Ray - I remember we stayed in one with friends in Xaghra area (not sure of spelling now) and we had a good time (although for us we felt Gozo was just too quiet) but then the Friday arrived and the place was overrun with young maltese ready to party the whole weekend away day and night...... I know I said am not keen on being too quiet but there is a balance lol

Denis at RE/MAX was very helpful, I would have no problems recommending him. October is probably a perfect time to be moving, after the summer season is over there will be a much better choice of places. Many of them come off the market during the summer as the landlords let them out on a short-term basis to holiday-makers. So it can be more difficult finding somewhere earlier on in the year.

There is a very helpful FB Group called GOZONE with 600 + members. All questions can be answered by very helpful people in the group.

We got back to England yesterday having secured our new home in Victoria through Remax (Denis). We also saw properties with Grace at Frank Salt. Both were very friendly and helpful, but be sure to have a clear idea of what you want, because if you're vague you may not get to see the properties you ideally want. A local also recommended lookgozo.com and Melissa was quick to respond to our enquiries, but unfortunately was unable to find a suitable property (the Summer season we were regularly informed is a bad time of the year to be property hunting).

In the end we managed to get what some people said we would never get on our budget at this time of year: an old townhouse, in central Victoria, with original features and a walled garden with fruit trees.

I tried everything I could to find somewhere private, but had no success; however, as other expats in Gozo I know have said, the agents there don't seem too bad and many have rented through them for years.

Good luck :)
