Work opportunities in Malta

Post new topic

Kane_11

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some advice regarding job opportunities in Malta. I have always loved visiting Malta and have had strong family ties there - my aunt lived in Bugibba until she passed away. I would now really like to move to Malta to live and work.

I am an English language and politics graduate from Birmingham in England. I'm just unsure what opportunities are out there for me? I have administration and retail experience in addition to my degree, and wouldn't be too fussy regarding jobs at first.
I would be happy as long as I was able to get by reasonably comfortably and could afford my own accommodation.

I wondered if anyone could offer me advice or point me in the direction of any job opportunities?

Thank you for any help you're able to provide,

Kane.

Check out the etc website , Malta park and the times of Malta - if your an EU citizen you shouldn't have too much trouble finding work though

Timing of your arrival in Malta is crucial as is forward planning and an exit strategy if it doesnt go according to plan. Good luck

Thank you for your replies, should I really be looking to move to Malta and then apply for jobs?

Or would it be possible to get a job while I was still in England and then move over to Malta once I had accepted it?

Thank you,

Kane

Ideally you want to come to Malta with about 6 months of capital and using a Maltese address and a Maltese phone number apply for jobs in Malta - many won't even read cvs they will talk to you and decide based on that ( mainly bar/restaurant work )

it is very difficult to secure work prior to being in Malta  -  thats not saying its impossible - it can be done if you have a "in demand skill or profession" but most havent who arrive and as such my best advice by all means try but its a waste of time and effort - wait until you arrive plan and prepare in the meantime - As Robpw2 has said come with enough cash to support yourself for 6months, knock on doors call in to see people and ask use the bars cafes shops for contacts and simply ask. Dont give up keep trying.. Good luck

My landlady has just moved back to Malta and her South African husband managed to get a job before he arrived back on the island, but he's an IT specialist, and fortunately Vodafone had a suitable vacancy for him when he started looking. He was quite shocked at finding something so easy though.

But as Toon says if it's not a high demand, skilled profession you're looking for, it will be extremely difficult before you arrive in Malta, many employers will just ignore you until you are physically here.

As others have said, definitely easier to secure something once you're here. If you don't mind what you do you'll find something fairly quickly, I'm sure; HSBC contact centre in Swatar are always looking and salary is pretty good for Malta, likewise a lot of the customer service positions in Gaming companies. Keep Me Posted, Malta Park and Times of Malta are all good places to start. Good luck!
