Hi,

Living in a foreign country implies to discover its culture, to learn and master the cultural codes.

How did you deal with that? Share with us your culture shock stories where you experienced a funny or awkward moment in Slovakia.

What is your advice regarding the don’ts and what would you recommend to avoid any mistake?

Thank you in advance for sharing your stories,

Christine

Living in Slovakia for the last 5 years you find that they do differ to that from say UK or US as they dont really have any care for there environment and don’t take care of there surroundings or property’s as we would in other country’s this is a old socialistic thing which is still a big problem in Slovakia generally wit the older generation who expect that they should have every thing done for them. another big shock to me was the level of graffiti and vandalism in Slovakia its at epidemic levels with the laws not being enforced and this goes back to people not caring how there towns or city’s look outside there own homes. when i asked about it to locals they appear not even to register they have a problem saying its ok inside my home is good..her lies the problem..

Hi Interspec,

I agree from outside the buildings in Slovakia remind you of the old socialistic or Communisit days. I stay in Slovakia for very few days. However the local younger generation is nice and friendly. They are willing to help. I'm non Slovak speaker but I do manage to get things around it.
