Best option for mobile data for a 2 week-1 month stay??

Hey, guys...When we were last in the DR, I bought a simcard from orange with no data...just voice calls.  It worked about as well as my connection here.  My question is though, is it better to buy the data package for our unlocked phones while we are here for only 1 to 2 weeks at a time...and maybe a month in Summer?  That way we don't have to bother setting up a internet connection at our house until we really need one...Is that feasible?

Hi Brodie,

Feasible yes, advisable no.  You are better off with a voice plan and then use your wifi to connect to a public access point.  The problem is here that if you take a pay as you go plan, you might spend $40 to get the data plan and think that's great and well worth it to find out 2-3 days after you have paid for it that it has run out.  You can pretty much kiss that money good-bye , go and stand in line for a couple of hours to take out your frustration on the clerk and get no where.  Hope that helps.
