battery

Last service I had, the battery was flagged as needing replacement. Car was bought in Sept 2013 so it's 2 yrs old.

I declined Mazda's offer to replace it (40BD for an AC Delco) and ran it to one of the little garage shops off Janabiya Highway to have it checked out. Charge was good and electrolytes were topped up. Guy there said it would be fine for at least another 6 months.

I'm due to leave the car at the airport for 10 days shortly and am concerned that when I return it may be dead.

Should I replace it now?

If so, one of the shops there quoted me 36BD for an Exide battery with an 18 month guarantee (although to honour this, I'd have to go to Exide in Manama which is hardly convenient.) I could alternatively run myself to Mazda at Tubli and pick up the AC Delco for 36BD and have some guy at Janabiya fit it for a few BDs.

Any advice?

The weather isn't unbearable so I think 10 days and you should be fine, obviously the only way to find out is to try it, unfortunately.

While things like your clock and ECM, Keyless entry, computers keeping memory alive and any security features do have small drains which could axe a weak battery - it sounds as your car is new enough and battery solid enough to last the 10 days.

If you are concerned it would be worth the time and cost to get it replaced now, just another piece of mind you won't be dwelling on during the flight home and the excruciating walk to the car to see if it'll start.

I paid I think 33 for my last battery at a local shop here in Riffa and that came with a 12 month warranty - which is convenient because the battery is dead to rights now.

thanks for that relwell. Your thinking mirrored mine. Definitely don't want to be stranded at the airport at 11pm on a Saturday night after travelling all day.

I actually went out and got one late yesterday. I got an AC Delco from Mazda for 36BD and drove over to Janabiya Highway to have it installed. Took them about a minute and a half and they didn't charge me anything at all which surprised me.

They told me to start the engine and run it through the process so I wouldn't lose any computer info.
