Visa information with dual citizenships in Brazil

Post new topic

confusedtraveller

Hello!

I have 2 citizenships- Australian and Spanish.. when I started on the trip I hadn't  realised that I could live visa free in Brazil for 90 days with a Spanish passport, so I had already paid for a visa with my Australian one for December 2015. The issue is, is that I have just read that you can't  re-enter the country again on another passport within the same year, however, is there a way for me to return on my Spanish passport in February 2016 to use the 90 days then?

Sorry for being so confused- I am just not used to Visas.. there are so many sites that sometimes give contradictory information..

James

The 180 day annual limit is not for the passport, but for the person. It doesn't matter if you have 10 passports, if you're in Brazil for more than 180 days in any given (rolling) year you have overstayed and are subject to both a fine and being requested to leave the country.

While an overstay, in itself is no big problem here, using more than one passport to do so can be considered immigrations fraud, which is a big deal and is deportable.

Oh dear god! I am so sorry to bug you but who do I contact about this? Do I just wait till I arrive in Brazil and try get in contact with a local embassy? Or immigration? I had already purchased the other ticket on my other passport!

James

I'd suggest that you try to get a refund on the ticket. If you arrive in Brazil you'll probably only get put back on the plane anyway, since they cross-reference not only to the passport number, but name and biometric data too. They're going to know you've already been in Brazil and exactly how long. The moment that they scan your passport into their computer system the game is over.
