First time visitor to Bali (Seminyak?)

Post new topic

Chuck1234

I'm an American living in Thailand for 15 years now and looking forward to my first trip to Bali next year. I've read as much as I can on the area but would certainly enjoy more enlightenment from expats living where I want to visit. - I'm retired and not a beach person, per se, but do enjoy the lovely weather which is why I live in Thailand now. That and the lovely ladies. Do I have the same opportunities in Bali? If my budget is about $60/night is there a particular hotel that I should stay in Seminyak? I chose Seminyak because I read that it is a little more quiet and refined than Kuta....am I correct? Any info you could give me would be very much appreciated! Thanks!!

JCollins

Hi Chuck, there are so many hotels to choose from in Seminyak. But if you have a Marriott Card you can stay at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Seminyak for around US$40 per night. If not, there are just so many places to stay within your budget.

Chuck1234

Thanks for that information. I don't have a Marriott Card anymore, but I will certainly consider that, thank you!!

Reading between the lines of your post, “the lovely ladies” then taking that as one of your prime objectives, you’ll be far better off, and your wallet least constrained, by spending time in Kuta and Legian.

And yes, your daily budget of US $60 a day will work there (just ask any Australian on 24/7 Spring Break), but not in Seminyak.

Chuck1234

Thanks Ubudian - I was referring to $60 USD/Day as my hotel budget, not my total allocation for the day. But, if I stayed in Seminyak, I could still have a day trip to Kuta and Legian, could I not? Is it convenient to do so?

Ubudian

Sure, Kuta and Seminyak are only about 6 km or a 15 to 20 minute drive apart.

Have a great time!

JCollins

Seminyak is definitely more refined than Kuta.
Kuta is known for rowdiness, messiness and backpackers on tight budgets.

15 years in Thailand? Then you must be familiar with experiences on Stickman Bangkok. If you set the bar on your Indonesian experiences like those previously experienced, you are likely to be disappointed.

Otherwise, have your eyes and ears open and have a great time.

Chuck, do yourself a favor when you visit Bali…take a day trip out of the southern zone, otherwise you won’t be able to say you’ve been to Bali anymore than someone who spends all their time at Soi Nana, Bangkok can say they’ve been to Thailand.   ;)

Chuck1234

Yes, thanks Ubudian, I intend to do just that, and perhaps a bit more.
Thanks again!

Thanks! And, cheers for your sage advice :)
