Advise for Bangkok New Years Eve - family style

Post new topic

ex-expat

I am bringing a family to Thailand (parents and adult children in their 30s) and they wanted to have a "local" New Years experience in Bangkok. The plan was to go to Sanam Luang, but I just found out it's under renovation. Does anyone have suggestions for a substitute with a similar feel? Something more traditional, family style, not the Siam Square type of scene. I heard maybe the Democracy Monument is an option but I've never been there for New Years. Does anybody know what that's like? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I think all the locations around the city will be jammed with people so why not consider something like:
