Hi All,

Just looking to find out what the job situation is like in Reykjavik. I currently work for the municipal government in Canada in traffic engineering (and to-be-honest like public sector work).  I use: SAP, IBM SPSS, Office et al. in my work environment and speak English and French (regrettably no Icelandic).  I also have a MA degree in Library Science/ IT (CLILIP and Library of Congress accredited).

Any help/ advice (i.e . prospects of find working) would be appreciated; and thanks in advance.

PS. I'm a European citizen.

being a European citizen will be helpful for you here, but not speaking Icelandic and having skills that sound like they'd fit with government jobs could be challenging.

My best thought is that the government's job website might be your best bet:

https://www.starfatorg.is/

alternatively, there is the Eures website which has information in English on jobs in Iceland:

Hi,

Thanks for the response. And yes I thought the lack of Icelandic in relation to government jobs would be a stumbling block. I'll probably have to look at the private sector (and utilize transferable skills). I'm not looking for exactly the same job etc. but don't want a drop in salary.

Anyway, thanks again.
