Good luck and I hope you enjoy the rest of your life
What works for one does not always work for all and I hope you enjoy the the times you will still be coming to Thailand.I admire you for admitting that you want to change your lifestyle
Not many people can admit to that.

Like a woman, ?? well, err, ..... Umm. Perhaps but I haven't had any one in Thailand loose it with me cause I didn't pick my undies or sox up from the floor........ Just remembering.....  LOL.

Soundspeed

Yes good luck Thailand For Me. I'm sorry you did not find happiness here. It will be interesting when you return home. As Aristotle, I think it was, said. " You cannot step twice into the same river."
I hope your home country has not changed too much from your perception of it - whether you like it or not Thailand has affected you in ways you may not realise yet.
I hope some of the good things about Thailand will go with you.

Apparently homesickeness takes about three years to surface fully. My wifes sage advice to me was not to burn any bridges when leaving Australia  but after four years -its "so far so good." Maybe the thought that i still have a place to return to makes me more settled here as I am not pushed to make a hard choice so I am pretty relaxed about life here.

Never done that, I sure would love to have some of what you are smoking. Really, I never said I wanted it to be like a western country.  Only looking for some kind of balance.  It is funny how everyone see's something different in Thailand.  Your living under Martial Law, you have no rights & no freedom,  & the country is in Chaos. Everyone is comfortable with this.  Time for me to move on. Everyone enjoy.

Never done that

Martial Law have no impact in my life.

Maybe you can tell me how it impact you live in a negative way ??

Funny that i write "Never understand why so many foreigner want Thailand to change to be more like their home country."

And you think it all about you, Maybe that a part of you problem here in Thailand, You can only think about you you you !!!
If i was aim at you, I have write you name next to it, So you know if it was aim for you only.

And maybe Martial Law is not so bad after all, It do look like their trying to make a lot of things better here in Thailand.

As long as the Thai people are okay with Martial Law, It is fine by me.

thailand4me

Martial law ok with the Thai people, what gave you this idea?  I am not just thinking about myself. You are full of yourself. You know it all. So enjoy your life in Thailand.  Patrick

Sound speed, good advice, Thanks, I am not planning on burning any bridges , just need a balance in my life, & many of my friends back home are not well & I would like to be able to spend time with them. I have lost my soul & want it back. I to have some medical issues & find it hard to get around easily like at home.  Thai is hard to learn at my age. And the everyday things I took for granted don't exist here in Thailand.  Good Luck to you.  Patrick

I would suggest that we all get back to the topic of this post "essentials to live in Thailand"

JOHNMELL

Getting back to the actual topic i am in the Isaan region and have found it difficult to buy clothes to fit me, especially jeans. I am not a particularly large person either.I assume it would be much easier living in an area where there is a large expat community. So in retrospect i would have bought more clothes from England before i came here.

thailand4me

Stumpy, your right clothes are hard to find for Expats, they never fit right, to tight in the arm pits, and the pants are baggy one place & to tight another. I have had clothes made here, but they also don't fit that well.  Best thing to do is buy in your home country when you go home to visit.  Patrick

stumpy

I shop in Thailand and have no problems with clothes or shoes etc, but if you are of more than average size I would suggest bringing such goods with you.

mogo51

I understand your plight.  Good luck and I hope the new plans work for you.

thailand4me

Thank You.

thailand4me

Barry Thanks for at least trying to understand me. And being kind. Patrick

mogo51

I found the same problem when spending some time in Isaan.

mogo51

If you are like me, enjoy cheese, bring some with you, it is a king's ransom here.

thailand4me

Yes, bring cheese, cold meats, steak from Costco, save a ton of money and enjoy yourself.  Patrick

mogo51

Costco is  just starting to emerge in Oz Patrick, haven't been to one of their stores.
I think Macro is somewhat similar?

mchkin

Then please do, put that in your pipe and smoke it..

mogo51

This is a forum and we are encouraged to express our views as we see them.  what you think of them is of little consequence to me.
I could give you numerous changes that have affected ALL farangs in Thailand, but it would be wasted on you as you would not be able to comprehend it.
Maybe learn the English language so you can express yourself with some sense.

thailand4me

You are correct, but not the same Quality of products.   Patrick

thailand4me

Mogo51, I was wondering about that to. Everything is Positive. One person said bring your smiles. Really.  I feel the same as you.  Steve.

Slerickson

If your shoe size is larger than 12 US then bring plenty of shoes.  Same goes for hats if you have a large head.  Buy clothes in Thailand as they are good and cheap. Pretty much everything else is available.

mogo51

thanks Steve.  I am off to Philippines next year as my gf is Filipino,  You are more welcome there, even though there are some negatives.  The most important thing is to
pick the right place to live there.
Just a little cheaper cost of living there but not much different.

If I recall, shoes are one of the items that have an extra tax attached to them if you have them shipped into Thailand as well...so shoes are a good one!

California4me

Mo go51, I would like to be able to stay in touch with you, am going to be traveling soon, back to California for 4 months in july, then back to Thailand for 4-6 months, return to California to set up household, then off to travel & explore other places while we are still healthy. Leaving behind a owned condo & a 2014 Subaru in Thailand.  Patrick

California4me

Where in the Phillippines , will you be living?  We have a lot of friends from California that are from there.  But from what I understand there are not many places that are save for the White man to live. I think I will be heading over to South America in my travels, sure would like to stay in touch with you. Patrick          Steve is my middle name.   ***

Hi Patrick
I hope you have a wonderful life and enjoyment ahead of you
I am sure that you are not going to regret it as it is what you want to do and that makes it the most important matter in your lifes.

You only live once and life is a journey that is to short to be unhappy or unsatisfied
