Hi,
I wonder if anyone has an answer to this question....
I have been living in Bratislava for 2 years now, still loving it. Later this year I am bringing my new Motorbike to Bratislava from the UK, my question is can I get it insured in Bratislava or will I have to keep my current UK insurance? I have no wish to register the bike on Slovak Plates. It will stay on the UK number plate as I work outside of Slovakia 8 months of the year. Any help on this would be appreciated.
Alex.

Hello beau1066
I looked into this for a car but was told that the car was too old to transfer to Slovak number plates and was advised to keep it registered and insured in the UK but for full European coverage rather than just the limited three months offered by most insurance companies.  Obviously this makes having to do a long drive for an MOT a must as local STK+EK are not accepted by the DVLA.
As your motorbike is new you could transfer it onto Slovak number plates relatively easily and will find that Slovakian insurance is cheaper than that available though a UK company.  The added advantage is that you will not have to worry about an MOT, just the initial KO+STK+EK and then four years after it's first registration the standard STK+EK that will then be redone every second year.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Thanks for the info but although I say "New" the bike is actually a 2005 model it will be new to Slovakia in that it hasn't been here before. I have made contact with a friends friend who works with insurance and I will wait out to see what his response is, and yes the problem is always the MOT! 😡
