Student visa

Barneyitis

Hi James. How are you?  So I'm back with a couple more questions for you. So I entered Brazil on Nov 28th 2015 and left on Feb 24th 2016. (89 days) am currently in Bolivia and plan to go back to Brazil on Aug 5th and leave on Nov 2nd (90 days).I have my return ticket to Ireland for that date. So that's my 179 days up! So I'm thinking about coming back to Brazil on a VITEM-IV  Student visa. I'd like to register in a university or language school to study Portuguese.  I understand from reading your posts that I would have to be out of the country for 270 days just to get back to the 90 days un-extended visa. So when could I apply for that visa and return to Brazil? And I have to apply to that visa in Ireland, right?

Thanks in advance James. The service you provide here is brilliant!
Regards,
Barney.

That would be if you are planning on coming back to Brazil as a tourist with a VITUR Tourist Visa or on a VWP entry, 270 days from departure would allow you a 90 day stay.

However that has no effect at all on another category of visa. With a VITEM-IV Student Visa you could theoretically come back to Brazil the very next day if you could get the visa that quickly. You don't count a tourist stay against a VITEM-IV stay, or vice versa.

I believe you could apply for the VITEM-IV Student Visa while you're in Bolivia at the Consulado-Geral do Brasil there. You certainly can check with them to find out. If you can then you can do it while there if you can get into a university Portuguese Course that would fit your schedule and maybe even save yourself from having to go Back to Ireland. Worth a try anyway.

Cheers,
James

Couldn't find a portuguese course for foreigners in the place where I wanted to stay so I ended up not going with that plan in the end!!
