Aussie in Japan

Post new topic

BWL

Good evening

I'm an Aussie in Japan, married to a Japanese.  I've been in Japan on and off for about 5 years.  I think it would take more than a lifetime to get used to living here.

Just getting to know this forum.

Cheers

Welcome on board BWL :)

Can you speak Japanese? Isn't it complicated to understand Japanese people when you're a foreigner?

Take care,

Julien

I speak basic Japanese.  Most Japanese try to help you out by speaking slowly, using gestures or even speaking English.

I'm Australian too, married to an Australian living in Spain.  Japan, that is so exciting, I'd hope to visit Japan one day, I struggle enough with life in Spain and the small differences that blow my mind here.

Do you like sushi?  I miss sushi a lot, it is very rare here in Barcelona, there are a few places to go for it but nothing near my work.

Jaime.

Konichiwa & Hello BWL!

Where in Japan do you live? I lived in Kobe for three years and really enjoyed it, especially the food and art. What is hard to get used to for you?

Do you sometimes come across situations where you speak perfectly understandable Japanese, but nobody will understand you, because, they say, they don't understand English? That happened to me on numerous occasions. It never seizes to amaze me how expectation moulds perception.
