Does Bali need a Rock N Roll Drummer?

Post new topic

silkdirect

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum so pls go easy;-). I'm currently a working musician in Sihanoukville, Cambodia ( no work permit needed here). Any musicians out there working steady? Is a work permit req. for musicians. Where are some of the hot spots for live music? I would love to jam with an existing band or put together a new band. I,m currently playing mostly classic rock with some more modern rock, Red Hot Chili's, Rage against etc... I would like to relocate to Bali to play long term. Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

Hello Don and welcome on board Expat.com

I invite you to read our articles in the Work section of the Living in Indonesia Guide.

You can also drop an advert in the Artists and Musicians field of the Bali Classifieds to have a better feedback.

Hi Don,

Bali has a great rock and roll scene with many very talented local bands.  My personal favorite and by far one of the top bands in all of Indonesia is KIS band Bali, led by my close friend Putu.  Here’s a couple of links to his many performances on You Tube:

I could introduce you to Putu as he enjoys jamming with other musicians.  You can send me a PM near when you might be headed to Bali and we can go from there.

Now, for the bad news…getting a work permit here as a band member is very, very difficult if not impossible unless you were going to form your own band and establish an entertainment company.

Cheers and good luck!

Hello my friend,

Thank you for the quick response and all the great info. Sorry my reply was not so quick…busy day yesterday. I will definitely let you know when I am coming for a visit. I figure a 30 day visit would be the best to have a look around. I would also love to meet the guys from KIS and a Jam would be amazing!. They have a great sound, loved the video. Its too bad about the mandatory WP. That is one of the many reasons I left Thailand after 12 years.

Cambodia is great in some ways an not so much in others so I thought I would start looking around and Bali looks great. I have heard good and bad about Bali these days but I know it is better to judge for myself. I think I will shot for Oct-Nov after visiting my daughter in BKK for here B-day in Oct? Thanks again for everything. I hope to see you in a few months. Pls stay in touch...

Cheers,
Don

Hello Kenjee,

Thank you for the links. I will have a look. “Ubudian” answered the most important question already ( WP req. for musicians and difficult to obtain). I still plan to come have a look around. Maybe Ill see you when I am there? Thanks again.

Cheers,
Don
