Hello everybody,

Dealing with unexpected situations abroad can be a very difficult matter. In order to better help expats and soon-to-be expats in Guatemala face such tricky situations, we invite you to share your advice and experience.

What are the key emergency numbers you should know by heart?

In the event of a legal problem, an accident, a natural disaster, an injury or the death of a close family member, what are the first things to do in Guatemala?

What are the things to plan ahead in order to better cope with such unexpected situations (registration at the Embassy, transport, medical, comprehensive insurance for instance)?

If you have gone through such experiences in Guatemala, do not hesitate to share your story.

There is 911 here to call in emergencies. I also went to my local tourist office and got the numbers of the police and fire in my town.
Proatur is a service that helps tourists. They can connect you to lawyers, translators, and such. Their number is 1500.
I have the emergency contact numbers of the Embassy in my phone and on my desk. I have registered with the Embassy and given this information to my family back home.
CONRED is another helpful website to follow. it lists disasters and emergencies.
