finding employment

maura

hi there,
I have been in malta for 5 years and so has my husband who is from the channel isles,
However, i get depresses when i am reading blogs and people are coming over to malta and partners have got work or they simply come over and find work, my husband has been looking for work for almost a year and not found anything, he is IT by trade, but as a native english speaker could only find teaching work for 2 months, what i would like to know how are all these other people able to get work without a problem and can someone show some caring thoughts for those of us who are living here and cannot find anything,
regards

Sarafima

We recently hired an IT person from the ETC registry - is your husband registered there?

I am also IT by trade, and I only speak English.... Systems engineer, network designer and network admin formerly for the US government.   I have been in country and actively looking for work for about 3 weeks.  I applied for anything and everything until I found the job I wanted...   Believe it or not the job I took was one I found after registering with ETC. ( I was amazed ) etc.gov.mt/   Prior to that I had registered and interviewed with several IT recruiting companies on the island as well as sites like eurogamingjobs.com/ and several England based international recruiting agencies.

Now I look at things differently also...

1. I sent out an average of 7-10 CV's per day with accompanying custom cover letters,

2. I used 15+ international recruiters.

3. if someone does not want to hire me I don't care and move onto the next one...  I call it a "healthy sense of rejection"

4. I used ETC

5. I would have taken a job pumping gas if I had to but I got lucky and found a job during the hardest part of the year in my field.

You are welcome to send me a private message if you like, I can always take a look at your husband's CV or resume whatever you are using and see if I can help there...  Honestly I am new to the CV thing, I used my resume when applying.

Patients and Diligence has always been the key for me, and some times just dumb luck falls into play.  Malta seems to have a need for IT guy's.  Id be interested in knowing what your hubby specializes in.

Yes - IT covers a multitude of sins, I too work in IT but a very different area than Chad, so tell us about your husbands speciality and perhaps one of us in IT can help.

Sins is a very good way to put it.  :)

Just got this from a local contact via facebook - "We're looking for some good Java Developers. Anyone who's interested or knows someone who could be, please drop me a line!" - so IT jobs are around on Malta, just depends on the area of expertice/timing etc. Unfortunately, this isn't nor do I have any experience in networks so I don't think I can be much help...sorry (but I will keep my ears open)

You with networks and my Java is terrible.... I can hack apart someone elses code to get what I need but that's it...   My code is always ugly but functional, though maybe a bit slow...

Yeah Ill leave the web stuff to you.  :)

I got your pm and will shoot an email off tomorrow morning.
