retirees who need frail care.

Post new topic

Antwerpen

Hello everybody,

I gather there are quite a few expat retirees living in Ecuador, and we are considering joining them.
However, thinking ahead we wonder what happens when one gets to the stage you can no longer take care of yourself, need frail care etc.?
Are there facilities to cater for such expats or would they then consider moving back to their country of origin?

Look forward to any info on the subject.

Person who  "can no longer take care of yourself, need frail care etc." can hire full time help for $240 per month.
For a year it will be $240 *12 = $2880 plus according to ecuadorian labor law $240 *2 = $480
$3360 alltogether for one year - full time help
I think some other payments required, but I am not sure.

Doctors do "house visits or house calls" here

Thank you Lilya for your input.  That sounds interesting.  Is it the norm to get this full time help rather than moving into an institution for elderly?  Definitely a better solution when you are able to stay in your own environment!

Ecuadorians are very family oriented. Grannys/grandpas live with the families until the end. When we were living in our Centro Historico condo - there are moms-pops bakery one block from us. Every single morning, seven days per week younger family members would bring grandpa -very frail looking guy to the bakery.
He would sit there in the bench, sometimes asleep, holaring when customers arrive. In the evening they would take him back home.
We called him Granpa Din-Don. It was real pleasure to say hi and buy to him.
One day we came over and he is not there. Que pasa - donde esta abuelo? The answer was - died last week.
