An Introduction

Hello to all.

I am a 61 year old male from Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA (Land of 10,000 Lakes,) considering a move to the Ecuador in the next year or so and doing the research to see if it is feasible. I have been reading the post on this board for some time now, and greatly appreciate the information and efforts of the contributors, and the staff, there’s a lot of information here to digest.

I was born In Los Angeles, California where I lived until I was 16. I love the ocean and miss it, however, Minnesota is a beautiful place with lots of lakes and forest. I lived on the Iron Range in the north, in a small town and at the lake for a number of years and prefer the small lake community to the City.
I am drawn to Ecuador for its overwhelming beauty, climate, and low cost of living. I plan to make a trip around the 4th of July 2011 to check it out, but only have a week or so to explore. For that reason, I am trying to predetermine the area that best suits my needs.

I would like to be as secluded as possible with good Internet Access, and reasonable proximity to banking, shopping etc. Cheap, quiet, serene, low crime, mild weather, grey poupon…. Yes, I want it all! But I’m adaptable.
My interest, so far are in Vilcabamba, Loja, Cuenca and Cotacachi.

I just wanted to make an introduction and will be reading with interest.

Peace, Prosperity and Health,

Quinn

Hi Ya'll!  I'm new here!

I want to know everything, from start to finish, how you got to Cuenca and how you managed to get settled.  I am a Southern Lady, educated with lots of energy and desire to learn a new culture.  Divorced for 20 years, 2 grandchildren!  Most importantly, I think, I want my retirement to be spent wisely and from what I have read, Cuenca is a place where that can happen.

I am concerned, however, that I will not be able to find the things most important to me that will enable me to feel at home in Ecuador.  I am an addict of NPR, ("Public Radio"), classical music and live theater.  While I am certain I will have Internet access, I am wondering about the quality and reliability of the connection.

My interest in moving to Ecuador is also drivin by my desire to experience more and more of this beautiful world and see more and more of God's creations.  It will be challenging but if I am not being challenged, I am in a downhill direction for my life.

I want to know about health care, banking, special services for the elderly, and will I find it easy or challenging to make the transition.  I've been thinking about this for a couple of years, and reading articles here and there.

You can email me if you like.

Each place you mentioned has something to offer.  But a week or so is very little time to find out about one place, much less four unique places.  What attracts you to those four places?  And what do you hope to do when you are there?
