Your best business development ideas in Romania

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hi everyone,

As a foreign entrepreneur, launching a business in Romania is a fantastic project and an exciting challenge. Some ideas are likely to succeed. Some others are promising but may not work as well as intended.

In your opinion, what kind of business or industry is likely to succeed in Romania? What kind of industry or service currently unavailable or underdeveloped in the country would meet local needs?

On the other hand, what are the most common business types foreign entrepreneurs would be eager to launch in the country but with very little chance of success?

Thank you for your insights.
Priscilla

I dont think you will get an answer to that, if a romanian has such an idea, he will try it hisself ;) . Better ask if your Idea could have success

Having lived in Bucharest for 16 years I have seen many investors come and go. All of them had great ideas that would make them their fortune almost overnight. Unfortunately many of them weren't prepared to put in the hard work necessary for any business plan to suceed. Many of them thought that Romania and Romanians would fall at their feet just because they were foreigners. The longer I lived here the more amusing I found this to be especially from a certain group of expat investors who in their arrogance fell flat on their faces and shall we say, "quickly shown the USA" :))

I myself retired a number of years ago but boredom was never a strong skill of mine so a couple of years ago I set up my own company and business which is succeeding very well. The business is actually a real no brainer with minimal overhead costs. However, if I revealed the nature of my business to everyone,  the niche market I am doing so well in would become quickly contaminated with wannabe get rich quick pretenders.

I do hope that my comments haven't offended anyone. Romania is a beautiful warm and friendly country and I hope that all expat investors with serious and good intentions enjoy their time here and have great success with their chosen projects. Good Luck ...

Ah yes the last line of your question   in a country with little chance of succses
I have seen first hand in the last month how hard it is to open a buisness here in romania
I have met with a small buisness owner who is trying to get his teeny tiny take out food rest off to a running start.
from a bombardment of paperwork to inviting officials to inspect his place and to boot a 14000 lei yearly fee just for his spot.
how is the small buisness owner to survive this system
I myself bieng a Canadian Chef who has worked in just about all the large 5 star hotels in Toronto wouldnt touch a food biz here with a ten foot pole. way too much stress involved  too many people want a piece of your pie..... im sorry but the system here is 50 yrs behind everyone else.
I have several great food and management training ideas i would like to move forward with but i feel that my efforts would be fruitless.
perhaps when the system changes someday Romanians will stay in this Beautifull counrty and work and spend there hard earned lei..

Apparently churches are big businesses in these part of the woods -  a thriving empire. From what I see, they are highly profitable, quite lucrative and you have the full support of the govt ***.
