Good day. I am planning on starting a small BPO operation and want to keep things legal. I am now looking for information on how to proceed. Eventually, I am planning to obtain a PEZA license, but for now cannot fulfill the PEZA requirements. All work is online, and all is IT for customers abroad (not in Philippines). Questions: What kind of visa do I need to be able to work online for my customers? How should I best proceed to start a BPO business here? How to best safe on taxes? Thank you. Kindest regards, J from Cebu.

It is good that you want to invest  and operate a legal business here in the Philippines. Have you considered seeking help from business consulting firms that can assist you in business registration and Philippine visa?

What kind of BPO setup are you planning to establish?

As with anything and anyone here in PH, I am very careful and I am trying to feel out where I can gather useful info. You are right, in PH, it is almost impossible to get quality info for free. Yes, I am considering getting professional help.
The plan is for an IT BPO, providing IT services solely for export.

That would be a better option. Since corporate lawyers are the most credible to advise you on this matter and you can ask them all of the technical and legal stuff that is involved in your business. I am not a lawyer but from what I know, if you are to apply for PEZA, you must meet the qualifications that it needs for you to be considered like for example, the business is export oriented and  it should be located in PEZA zones/PEZA registered buildings. Location is very important in the business registration process since there is a need to provide a business address.

Thank you for your input. Yes, having a PEZA licensed business is the ultimate goal.

Most bookstores in the Philippines have a book section on law, constitution, regulation and business. Make no mistake. Opinions often lead you to problem.
