Hello everyone,

Finding affordable housing in Australia is number one priority for newcomers. Tell us more about the estate market in your district/city/region.

What are the most desired places to live? What are the most affordable ones? What is the average cost of a rented flat? And what is the average sale price for an appartment or a house? Could you tell us more about local real estate policies/procedures? What about property tax or residency tax in Australia?

What about you? Where do you live now? Is it a place you would recommend?

Thank you in advance for your clarifications.

Australian cities have become very expensive and overcrowded.   Real estate is simply unaffordable unless you have lots of money or a very high income.  The situation is different in the country, where real estate is more affordable and there is more peace and relaxation.   However, you need some income to live there.   I live in the country 100km north of Melbourne on my share of Australia's boundless plains.  It's heaven on earth in my opinion.

I have to say, as a person that has moved a lot in her life, moving in Australia is a tough thing to do.
I have a few tips and the first one is: DO THE RESEARCH!
Since I am living in a third world country at the moment I have learned to appreciate the benefits of online searching and developed sites on every possible topic we get back home in Oz. I find lifull.com.au the most helpful.

Then, explore the different areas in person.
You don't need the hippest neighborhood either, just find a part of town that fits your needs.

Learn what you are like and what you need and then compromise.
And good luck finding your perfect home!
