The holiday season in the Netherlands

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Are you about to celebrate the holiday season in the Netherlands? In many countries and cultures, the festive season is the time for happiness and reunions/gatherings. Is it so in the Netherlands? How do Dutch celebrate this very special time of the year?

What about you? Will you spend the holiday season in your host country or in your home country? Will there be expat reunions/celebrations/parties in your region/town/area?

Thank you in advance for sharing!

We'll be in the UK this Christmas; it seems like half of Holland is coming to us!

I do know that I really like the Christmas Holiday there, it starts in early December when Sinterklaas, his big white horse and his helpers (de Zwarte-Pieten) arrive on a steam-boat from Spain with presents for the kids, and just seems to go all the way through to New Year.

I shall miss it this year, but I'm already looking forward to 2017. :)

Hi,
We are going to be in India for Christmas. In India too, Christmas is among the festivals celebrated throughout the country with equal fervor and enthusiasm.
Schools remain closed for around 2 weeks and markets:malls are decorated with Christmas trees with Santa Claus coming on the evening of 25 Dec in his sleigh, to the delight of all kids who are excited to take selfies and get sweets and gifts from him.
Christmas fairs and get togethers are organized where you can enjoy games, food, rides and buy wonderful Christmas-related gifts and handicrafts; even homemade cookies, cakes and pastries. It's one of the most wonderful time of the year and celebrated all across India from north to south and east to west.

It's also a good time to visit India, especially if you don't favor hot tropical summers. Temperatures across India are in the cooler range and the gardens are full of colorful winter blooms like chrysanthemums, dahlias, marigolds and lots of fresh leafy green vegetables. I can just go on and on, but I guess this is enough for now!! Wishing everyone A Very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!!😊
