Does my budget sound logical/accurate for Bangkok?

Post new topic

Hi,

Will be doing some travelling around SE Asia, and will be planning to stay in Bangkok for a while, or as long as I can stretch out the visa.

Anyway I have pulled together a basic budget of what I think the figures would be as follows (in Thai Baht) -

Food -  7,300 (this is based on eating cheap street food majority of the time)

Rent - 17,000

Misc. - 18,500

Total - 42,800

The one I wanted input on mainly was the Misc. this is basically all the other everyday stuff. I.e buying toiletries, any tours, transport and if I go out to bars/nightclubs.

Any help is appreciated.

I live in Chiang Mai so the costs may be different for Bangkok. My budget can run from $800 - $1,200 US a month, depending upon how large I want to live. I live in a two bedroom house and I am single and often take out my Thai lady friend for different functions or elaborate meals. Perhaps this helps a little on getting a prospective.

Thanks, I'll be working with Australian dollars so your figure is in the same ballpark. How much more expensive is Bangkok compared to CM?

Specifically I don't know about Bangkok. The 42 k baht figure sounds appropriate. Maybe you should boost the number by 10% for your initial "landing". As your there you'll be able to search around for the better products. You might want to hook up with a Thai or some organization to get input for resources. Plus do on line research. And I was reminded last night that Bangkok have an extensive night life. Sorry I can't be any more specific.

You don't say what time period this budget is for? If its for a month I'd say its bit light for Bangkok. There are so many variables. You say "we" is this for 2 people?  ... but then you say  if I go out to bars/nightclubs.  If you want to go out partying every night it will add up. Have you sourced accommodation for 17,000? Renting by the month is much cheaper than paying per day, but be aware electric & water will be extra. I would add 50% to your budget and hope not to spend it all.
